Abd. Aziz born in Kabupaten Blitar on June 1, 1972, and currently residing in Desa Tegalrejo Rejotangan, Tulungagung, has established himself as a distinguished academician and administrator in the field of education. His educational journey began with foundational studies at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Darussalam Wonodadi Blitar in 1985, followed by secondary education at MTsN Kunir Blitar in 1988.
Prof. Abd. Aziz earned his bachelor’s degree in Islamic Education from IAIN Tulungagung in 1996. Subsequently, he obtained a master’s degree in Islamic Education from the Islamic University of Malang in 2003 and pursued a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology at the State University of Malang from 2007 to 2012.
Prof. Abd. Aziz commenced his professional career in 2000 as a civil servant at STAIN Tulungagung. From 2001 to 2002, he served as a young lecturer teaching Islamic Education Philosophy and held additional responsibilities as a staff member of the Diploma 2 program at STAIN Tulungagung. During 2002-2006, he assumed significant responsibilities as the Head of Research and Community Service (P2M) at STAIN Tulungagung. From 2010 to 2013, he led the Department of Education as its Chair, overseeing its expansion into UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, increasing its study programs from 5 to 12 within 3 years. Following the institutional transformation from STAIN to IAIN, he served as the First Dean of the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at IAIN Tulungagung from 2014 to 2018.
In recognition of his academic contributions, Prof. Abd. Aziz was appointed Vice-Rector I for Academic Affairs and Institutional Development from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, in 2021, he served as the Acting Vice-Rector for General Administration, Planning, and Finance at IAIN Tulungagung. From 2022 to 2023, following the institutional transformation from IAIN to UIN, he served as Vice-Rector II for General Administration, Planning, and Finance at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung.
On June 21, 2923, Prof. Abd. Aziz was honored as the 23rd professor in the field of Instructional Technology at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, a testament to his expertise and contributions to the field. Currently serving as the Rector of UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung for the 2023-2027 term, he was appointed by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on October 19, 2023. Prof. Abd. Aziz’s leadership and vision continue to shape the institution’s trajectory, ensuring academic excellence and institutional advancement.
Prof. Aziz’s scholarly contributions extend beyond academia, with notable publications in both books and journals. His chapters in books such as “Kebijakan Kuliah Daring 2020 di Tengah Wabah Cavid 19” and “Harapan dan Kecemasan Di Balik Covid 19” delve into critical issues in education amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, his articles in journals, including “Transformational Leadership” and “The Effect of Digital Learning,” underscore his dedication to enhancing teaching practices and educational outcomes. Prof. Aziz’s multifaceted contributions underscore his commitment to advancing educational research and practice in Indonesia.
